Faberge Fiesta Challenge Biographies
Ann Roden
| Having been actively involved as a
competitor and event organiser since the late 1960s, I was persuaded out of my first
retirement from competitive rallying to co-drive on the Faberge Fiesta Championship. I
never regretted the decision and I will always treasure the year I spent sitting alongside
Lesley Cowcill. The championship eventually turned out to be not as successful for us as we had hoped earlier in the season I think we finally finished third. However, the little yellow peril had a sister car in which we did other events and I shall always cherish the memory of us doing a David and Goliath act by beating Michelle Mouton in the works Audi Quattro to take the Coupes de Dames trophy on the Belgian Tours of Ypres. I dropped-out of motor sport for about 5 years after the championship "to spend more time with my family" which, by 1980, totalled two boys and a girl. However, I continue to be as addicted to motor sport as I was as a teenager and as I was in 1979. Although I never went back to competing seriously, since the late 1980s most of what I laughingly call my spare time has been devoted to organising motor sport. For many years I have been a deputy clerk of the course for the first round of the British National Rally Championship the Bournemouth based Rallye Sunseeker. Ive also spent time helping to run the RAC Rally/Network Q Rally/ Wales Rally GB and British Grand Prix. And, in more recent years, have run the advance car on trans-continental rallies such as Midnight Sun to Red sea and the London-Sydney Marathon, sitting alongside my hubby of over 30 years, Neil. I lived in Somerset at the time of the championship but, rather bizarrely, Neil and I now live 100 yards from Ali Green and her husband, Mick. Together, Ali and I have run more club motorsport events that any of us care to remember, including devising and launching the incredibly successful Regis Classic Tour that has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity |
