Faberge Fiesta Challenge Biographies

| Here follows a brief history of my
rallying career since the Faberge Championship in 1979 During 1979 also competed in 3 stage rallies in RS2000 & entered the RAC Rally and finished 2nd lady behind a Finn, and 48th overall. Last modern rally was the Welsh in 1980 in RS2000 29th overall. Circumstances changed and I gave up rallying during the 1980s but not competition altogether. Bought a Lotus 7 which was used in RAC C/ship driving tests around the country. Together with husband Paul, having set up our own company in 1980, we moved from Southampton to Yorkshire in 1984, and as the company became more successful, we were able to return to rallying, but we chose the historic scene. The Lotus 7 was sold and a road-going Sunbeam Tiger (1965 4.2 litre V8) was purchased which was converted into rally spec. during the winter of 1989/90. The Tiger was first used on special stage events in Ireland, then longer distance events e.g. 1995 Liege-Sofia-Liege, 1996 Corse Retro 40 on island of Corsica (first overall win with Kevin Savage navigating), 1997 Liege-Istanbul-Liege, several Classic Marathons (Gold Alpine Cup with Paul Wignall navigating), + events in Scandinavia (overall winner of 1998 NAF Oslo Challenge with Kevin Savage), numerous Scottish Malts Reliability Trials (Gold medals on all 5 occasions). The car has competed on at least 46 rallies over the last 14 years. It generally collects a class award and usually finishes inside the Top Ten. Most recent event: Classic Marathon in Sept. 2004 which this year started in Northern Germany, travelled through Denmark, thence crews caught a ferry to southern Norway. The entry list included all the top names in historic rallying from around Europe. With Kevin Savage on the maps, we didnt quite manage to beat the Dutch crew of Bert Dolk/Jan Berkhof, so had to settle for 2nd overall. We covered 2,626 miles in 10 days. In 1993 also acquired a 1960 Porsche 356B which is still being used on navigational road rallies during the winter in the U.K. and France. Together with Kevin Savage, we have competed on eight Le Jogs (Lands End to John OGroats Reliability Trial) and collected 4 gold medals & 3 silver medals. Other major exploits include navigating husband Paul on the 2001 Inca Trail in his 1960 Volvo PV544. This event covered 15,500 miles around South America in 8 weeks, including 5,000 miles of truly appalling gravel roads, and climbing to 17,000ft. We also took the PV to an overall win on the 2003 Arctic Trial through Sweden, Norway, beyond the Arctic Circle to the North Cape and back through Finland. This car has therefore travelled from Cape to Cape on these two events. We also own a number of vintage Sunbeams and Talbots which are used on VSCC events and touring holidays around Europe. |
